Whitby Gets a Slice of Downton Abbey

It turns out that Penelope Wilton, who plays Mrs Isobel Crawley in the ITV show, is a big fan of Whitby. I wonder what her fellow natives of Scarborough just down the coast think of that!

You may or may not know that Whitby has a strong literary tradition. Part of Bram Stoker's novel Dracula was set in Whitby, incorporating pieces of Whitby folklore, including the beaching of the Russian ship Dmitri. Stoker discovered the name "Dracula" at the old public library on Marine Parade.
